Teaching International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic Writing and Exam Strategies Online to Develop Omani Students’ Writing Proficiency

The restrictions imposed by the COVID 19 pandemic have forced educators and students worldwide to adapt online learning. Language teaching in L2 contexts also had shift mode without compromising quality of This paper examines perceptions as well performance participants involved International English Testing System (IELTS) course offered Middle East College, Muscat, Oman via MS Teams, an platform. Most IELTS courses focus on improvement exam techniques; however, developers this designed a syllabus based needs analysis cater specific candidates, which would not only improve their test-taking strategies but develop writing skills. Adopting Test, Teach, Re-test method, diagnostic test was conducted initially, followed interventions post-tests. Interviews with teachers, feedback from students, comparison scores exit level scores, use corpus linguistic methods examine lexicogrammatical features were carried out determine effectiveness course. results indicated that those who motivated performed poorly, whereas high achievers engaged self-study were, some extent, autonomous learners. contributes our understanding short-term language classes for Omani learners provides recommendations improving design delivery such courses.
